Man held on child abuse charges

A transient was held on child abuse charges after a relative noticed marks on the bodies of two children under the age of eight.

On July 29th, officers with the Panama City Police Department were called to an address on Caldwell Drive by a relative who noticed multiple marks on two children. Detectives with the department were called to the scene and the children were moved to a safe location.

During their investigation, detectives learned that Larry Porter, 43, had been caring for children prior to them being dropped off with the relative. The relative noticed multiple injuries on the youngest child’s thighs and buttocks.

Porter is accused of beating both children with a thin belt “multiple times”. Porter was charged with excessive child abuse and booked into the Bay County Jail.
