Shooting incident at Port Panama City
A disagreement over a blocked path leads to one person firing multiple shots and one person in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers with the Panama City Police Department responded to a report of shots being fired at Port Panama City around 1:30 p.m. In addition, law enforcement officers from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and Custom and Border Patrol responded to the scene.
A truck driver from Climax, GA, Darious G. Thornton, got into a disagreement with a port worker while backing his truck on port property.
Although the individuals were briefly separated, the victim approached Thornton a second time, Thornton pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking the victim three times. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Thornton was quickly detained and has been charged with one count of aggravated battery, intentionally or knowingly causing great bodily harm with a deadly weapon. He has been booked into the Bay County Jail. The shooting remains under investigation.
