Empty The Shelter Event Begins
BCAC OFFERS FREE ANIMAL ADOPTIONS TO “EMPTY THE SHELTER”
Panama City, FL – Effective immediately through Tuesday, Oct. 26, Bay County Animal Control (BCAC) will waive adoption fees as part of an “Empty the Shelter” event to move adoptable animals out of the facility quickly due to overcrowding concerns.
On Friday, Oct. 15, BCAC staff, working with the City of Parker Police and Code Enforcement, removed 18 abandoned dogs from a property in Parker, which contributed to the high volume of animals available at the shelter.
“We’ve got many of those animals ready to go, and we’ve had lots and lots of other people dropping off animals,” BCAC Division Manager Kathy Beatson said. “We want to do everything we can to find them all a good home, and so for the next week, the $25 adoption fee will be waived.”
Beatson said the shelter has numerous cats and dogs available for adoption, and the public is invited to visit the BCAC website to review information about adoptable pets.
“A shelter pet can be a great companion,” she said, “and this is an opportunity to get one at no cost.”
BCAC conducts adoptions on Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The shelter is closed to the public on Wednesday and Sunday. BCAC is located at 6401 Bayline Dr., Panama City, FL 32401.
