FSU tramples over Boston College 44 – 14, extending season to 5-0.
After the U.S. Army Rangers paratrooper team delivered the American flag to the field, it took a mere 13 seconds for the Seminoles of Florida State to set the explosive tone of Saturday night’s game against Boston College, putting the sold out crowd of 79,560 on their feet.
After winning the toss, Boston College deferred to the second half of the game. Number 99, Danny Longman kicked a 58 yard ball to FSU’s #3 Trey Benson who ran 93 yards to put the first 6 points on the board.
Ryan Fitzgerald kicked the extra point after an offense false start backed the Seminoles up an extra 5 yards. Fitzgerald then kicked for 65 yards for a Boston College Touchback.
Boston College’s first drive ended up in an interception by Florida State’s #13 Omarion Cooper. Florida State followed with two failed passes and a completed deep middle pass to #87 Cameron McDonald for 32 yards resulting in the Seminoles’ second touchdown of the first quarter.
Ryan Fitzerald made the extra point and the Seminoles were up by 14 with 12:52 left in the first quarter.
Trey Benson had a 15 yard rush for touchdown with 6:05 left in the first quarter and another Ryan Fitzgerald extra point to put Florida State at end the first quarter with an impressive 21 to Boston College’s 0.
Seminoles started the second quarter off with a field goal before five seconds had clicked off the clock to take the score to 24-0. The Seminoles scored a total of 10 points in the second quarter possessing the ball for 6:27 to end the half Boston College 0, Florida State 31.
Boston College was able to get some movement together in the third quarter possessing the ball for 9:50 and putting seven points on the board.
The fourth quarter began with Trey Benson scoring another touchdown off a 36 yard run to bring the score to Boston College 7, Florida State 44. Boston College was able to score again with just under a minute on the clock to end the game with a final Boston College 14, Florida State 44.
Florida State will face Wake Forest in Tallahassee on October 1.
